India Tour of West Indies to Begin on July 22

The tour will be a crucial assignment for the newly appointed skipper of the West Indian team in limited overs, Nicolas Pooran, as he prepares his team for the mega event in Australia.

The Indian cricket team has a very hectic schedule coming up soon after the IPL ends. After playing South Africa, Ireland and England, India will tour West Indies in the latter half of July. The white ball leg will comprise 8 games being played across 4 venues. As speculated, the last two T20Is of the trip will be played in Florida, USA. The tour begins just after the completion of India’s assignment in England where they play a solitary test match along with three ODIs and T20Is each. The tour will begin with the three-match ODI series which will be held at Queens Park Oval in Trinidad. The teams will then compete against each other in the 1st T20I at the newly built Brian Charles Lara Stadium. Second and third matches of the series will be played in St Kitts and Nevis before the caravan moves to the US for the remaining two matches. Though a confirmation from the US government is yet to be received, any roadblock popping up for those two matches is very unlikely.

Since the Indian players will be involved in back-to-back tournaments, the selectors are expected to try out quite a few fresh faces for these series. As per reports, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah might be rested for the upcoming series against SA. Players like Umran Malik and Prithvi Shaw are under selectors’ radar as they might be picked to play against SA. Hardik Pandya is also expected to return for the series.

India’s busy schedule does not end in the Caribbean islands. The team will then compete in the Asia Cup slated to start in August in Sri Lanka.
