Just less than a month before the IPL 2022 begins in Mumbai, CSK have been hammered with a huge blow. The second most expensive player from this year’s mega auction, Deepak Chahar, is set to miss a majority of IPL 2022. If Deepak’s recovery doesn’t go well, he might have to skip the entire season. The defending champions bought Deepak for a whopping amount of INR 14 crores on the 12th of February. The fast bowler also became the first player to be bought by CSK for over a 100 million rupees in the IPL auction’s history.
Deepak Chahar set to miss majority of IPL 2022
Deepak Chahar suffered a quadricep tear during the third T20I of the Paytm series against West Indies last month. According to the reports, the pacer requires several weeks to heal. Subsequently, Chahar will have to miss a major part of this edition of the Indian Premier League. The chances of him missing the whole season, too, loom large.

Chahar is an integral part of the Super Kings. He was bought by franchise in 2018 for a mere sum of INR 80 lakhs. Because of his consistent performances since then, he was expected to be a hot property at the 2022 mega auction. Luckily for Deepak, he is centrally contracted to the BCCI. According to the IPL norms, if a player, contracted by the BCCI, misses an entire season of the IPL because of injury, his salary will be compensated by them.
Chennai Super Kings have Adam Milne and Chris Jordan in the ranks to provide firepower to their pace bowling attack in Deepak’s absence. But, they lack big Indian names in their fast bowling group. Tushar Deshpande had a decent IPL 2020 and KM Asif has been associated with CSK for a few years now. Young Rajvardhan Hangargekar can touch the 140 kmph mark consistently, but he is still an untested commodity at the IPL level. CSK is known to turn any metal into gold, but Deepak’s absence is sure to hurt them this season. One of Ishant Sharma, Dhawal Kulkrani and Sandeep Warrior can be the ideal replacement for Deepak Chahar. CSK do have a tough task in their hands, but they need to find a suitable substitute for Chahar.
