Failing the toss, Renegades had to bat first in Cazalys Stadium. The Gades started on a solid note with a net run rate above 10 in the powerplay without losing a single wicket. Building on the initial momentum, Nic Maddinson struck boundaries as he steered the team through a flow of wickets on the opposite end.
Alongside with Andre Russell, he formed a 76-run partnership for the fifth wicket. The two players took the total to 159, eventually setting a target of 167 runs. Home Boy Matthew Kuhnemann struck thrice while James Bazley struck once.
On chasing, the Heat’s batting order plummeted in the beginning. They lost both of their openers in the first few overs. Even though Colin Munro and James Peirson had some solid knocks, it was not enough to save the team from an eventual loss. Also, The slow pace of runs did not help the situation any better. At a point, the match started to go along with the Gades’ wishes. Akeal Hossein starred with the ball for the Gades. He whipped the Heat with three wickets in four overs giving away just fifteen runs.
Captain Nic Maddinson featured in his 100th game in Big Bash League. The game could have not been any better. His knock of 87 runs off 49 balls helped him ease up a Man of the Match.
Brisbane Heat now has a serious groveling to be done and come back stronger when they play Gades next week. On the other hand, the Renegades have a match in between before they play the Heat once more. The Melbourne-based team will play Thunder before heading to a home match with the Heat.
