Bangladesh Slam Afghanistan To Record Their Biggest Test Win

Bangladesh beat Afghanistan by 546 runs in the one-off Test in Dhaka. They achieved their highest victory margin in Tests, and the third highest in Test history. The last man of Afghanistan Zahir Khan walked off the field due to an elbow injury on Taskin’s delivery. With this, the host secured the one-off Test match series by 546 runs. The overall record for the biggest Test win by runs belongs to England. Back in 1928, England beat Australia by 675 runs in a Test match in Brisbane. Six years later, Australia beat England by 562 runs at The Oval, which is the second biggest win margin. Bangladesh broke South Africa’s record for the biggest Test win by runs. In 2018, the Proteas recorded a 492-run win against Australia at Johannesburg.

Let’s See How the Fourth Day Game Unfolded!

Rahat Shah and Nasir Zamal preceded the innings of Afghanistan from 45/2. Both added 22 runs for the fourth wicket before Jamal was trapped by Ebadot Hossain. Jamal scored only 6-run for his team. After Jamal’s wicket, Afsar Zazai joined hands with Rahmat Shah, but they only added 17 runs for the fifth wicket. Afsar Zazai was caught out by Shoriful Islam in Mehidy Hasan’s hand.

Bahir Shah replaced Hashmatullah Shahidi as a concussion substitute during Afghanistan’s 2nd innings. He made a 13 runs partnership with Rahmat Shah before losing his wicket to Shoriful Islam. Afghanistan lost their last five wickets under 37 runs. Rahmat Shah, who scored 30 runs, was the top scorer for Afghanistan in the second innings. Rahmat Shah was caught behind on Taskin’s delivery. Taskin’s third wicket came soon, when he bowled Karim Janat for 18. After Karim Jannat’s wicket, the incident of falling Afghanistan’s wicket didn’t stop. The entire Afghanistan team got all out on 115 runs in 33 overs.

Bangladesh Bowlers Performance

In the second innings, Taskin Ahmed and Shoriful Islam scalped 4 wickets and 3 wickets respectively. Moreover, Mehidy Hasan and Ebadot Hossain also took one-one wickets respectively. The twin centuries from Najmul Hossain Shanto and one from Mominul Haque in the second innings – had already laid the foundation for Bangladesh’s triumph. They declared their second innings on 425 after obtaining a 236-run lead in the first innings. Shanto earned the ‘Player of the Match’ award for his twin centuries. He scored 146 and 124 runs in the first and second innings of Bangladesh.
