Chennai Super Kings star Ambati Rayudu created a major stir on Saturday as he announced his retirement from the IPL. This was, however, short-lived as the 36-year old immediately deleted the tweet.
The announcement caused widespread uncertainty about whether the current edition was indeed Rayudu’s “last IPL”. The batter’s tweet came in at 12:46 pm and caused a massive stir on social media. However, the tweet was deleted less than an hour later, leaving fans bewildered.
On his official Twitter account, Rayudu tweeted:
“I am happy to announce that this will be my last IPL. I have had a wonderful time playing it and being a part of 2 great teams for 13 years. Would love to sincerely thank Mumbai Indians and CSK for the wonderful journey”

Chennai Super Kings CEO Kasi Vishwanathan clarifies over Ambati Rayudu Retirement Tweet
Amid the rising confusion over Rayudu’s tweet and subsequent deletion of it, CSK CEO Kasi Vishwanathan offered some clarity. In conversation with NDTV, Vishwanathan stated:
“He was a bit disappointed that he was not doing well. So, he mistakenly put out that tweet. I have explained things to him. He is not retiring.He will be with us.”
Rayudu has been a critical component of the CSK batting order over the years. The batter has been both aggressive and conservative, offering immense versatility to the team.
Rayudu was purchased for INR 6.75 crore CSK in the IPL 2022 auction but has struggled to find consistency this season. Appearing in 187 IPL games, the 36-year old has accumulated 4,187 runs at an average of 29.28.
