Birmingham: Welsh Paralympian James Ball and Matt Rotherham won gold in Men’s tandem B Sprint. Ball and his pilot won both the races in the final at Lee Valley Velopark. The Paralympian defeated Scotland’s most decorated Neil Fachie to secure the gold. Welsh First Minister Mark Lawford congratulated the duo on Twitter.
James Ball along with his pilot Matt Rotterdam secured Wales’ first medal, a silver yesterday in 1000m Tandem B. The gold in the category went to Neil Fachie, yes the same guy he defeated today to win the sprint event. The victory marks Ball’s first gold in Commonwealth Games. The 31-year-old from Ponthir has previously won a couple of silver medals in Gold Coast four years back.
Alex Pope, the other Welsh in the finals lost to Australia’s Beau Wooton in the race for the Bronze. The 24-year-old finished fifth yesterday in 1000m Time Trial Tandem B Behind Beau only.

Wales makes their total tally to six
The Home-Nation enlarges its tally to six medals. James Ball is responsible for two of them, gold in Men’s tandem B Sprint and silver in 1000M Time Trial Tandem B. Apart from him, Iestyn Harrett, Olivia Mathias, Dominic Coy, and Non Stanford won a Silver in the Mixed Team Relay Final.
Emma Finucane won a bronze in the Women’s Sprint and also led the Women’s team to a bronze in the Team Sprint Event. Additionally, Eluned King won a bronze in the 25km Points Race
