In his press conference at the 2017 US Open, Roger Federer answered a query that was unlike any other. Izyan Ahmad, a young reporter, asked the 20-time Grand Slam winner why he was known as the GOAT as Switzerland did not have many animals. This elicited laughter from everyone there.
“I wanted to ask you, Switzerland is really cool right? There isn’t too much livestock. So why do they call you the GOAT?”
Federer replied controlling his laughter that,
“I don’t know why. Some fans call me that, I don’t call myself that. Yeah, we have a lot of animals in Switzerland and goats are part of the livestock we have there.”
In 2017, Zizou requested that Federer continue competing until he become professional and was ready to face the former World No. 1 himself. Federer accepted, calling it a “pinky commitment” from his end to keep playing and subsequently play Zizou. He said this while grinning.
Federer kept his promise and surprised the kid with a match against him.
