Former World No. 1 Andy Murray underwent hip-replacement surgery and returned to the tennis court, having previously thought of retirement when the hip injury plagued his tennis career.
However, following the surgery, the Briton has been in decent form, if not great. He even was able to get back under 60 on the ATP ranking after he was forced to go below the 800 at one point.
The hip resurfacing in January 2019 gave him a glimmer of hope and he participated at the Australian Open and was able to grind through the first sets. Also Read: Iga Swiatek Says Tennis Missed A Chance To Ban Russians And Belarusians Because Of A “Lack Of Leadership” From WTA And ATP
Andy Murray says he will be happy if he inspires other players
He recently played in the final of the 2024 Qatar Open but couldn’t win as Daniil Medvedev eased past him. The 35-year-old talked about his surgery in a recent interview with Tennis Majors.
“That’s not something I’ve really thought about. But I would be happy if it might inspire other players, particularly amateur tennis players, to never give up and believe that anything is possible. I think I’m really lucky to have had my surgery when I did, with a great team around me,” Murray said. “Perhaps if I’d done it when Guga had his operations, things might have been different. I know how lucky I am to be able to be playing again and really enjoying being back on tour and hope to be out there for a while yet,” he added.
After the first-round exit from the Miami Open, Andy Murray will be seen in action at the Monte Carlo Masters. In his first match, he will take on 14th Alex de Minaur.
