Felton Spencer, the 12-year NBA veteran, passes away at the age of 55

Felton Spencer passed away at the age of 55. The NBA center and a former University of Louisville star was confirmed dead by his youngest sister, Tammy Pollock, on Sunday afternoon. Pollock left a note on Twitter saying, “Our beloved Felton Spencer – former basketball legend, retired 12-year NBA veteran and 6th pick in the 1990 NBA draft, and former assistant college coach – passed away peacefully this afternoon.”

Pollock expressed her gratitude to the University of Louisville Hospital for providing excellent care to Spencer in his final hours, saying it was befitting as it was his Alma mater that he loved so dearly. She added, “We are proud of all he did on the court and in his personal life. He was a kind, gentle giant whose physical presence will be sorely missed. Louisville men’s basketball team and others pay tribute to former star Felton Spencer.

The current men’s basketball team at The University of Louisville was also saddened by the terrible news. So they also put on a tweet paying tribute to their former star, which said, “We’re heartbroken by the passing of UofL great Felton Spencer. Spencer was the Cardinals’ all-time leader in career field goal percentage, the 6th overall pick in the 1990 NBA Draft, & a beloved member of the Louisville community. Our thoughts & prayers are with his loved ones.”

Although several tweets and posts were floating in social media about Spencer’s demise, one that cannot be overlooked was from the former NBA player Rex Chapman. Who also retweeted Louisville men’s basketball post and prayed for his peace. He wrote, “Felton Spencer was one of the sweetest, kindest, people I’ve ever known. Grew up in KY together & have known each other since age 15. Played on the last Kentucky all-star team to sweep Indiana together. Played against one another in college & the pros. A sad day. Spencer’s long-living legacy and career highlights

Following Spencer’s career with the NBA, where he was the sixth overall pick in the 1990 NBA Draft. He went on to play for the Utah Jazz, Golden State Warriors, New York Knicks, Orlando Magic, San Antonio Spurs, and Minnesota Timberwolves throughout the timeline of his entire career. Although it wasn’t a great feat, Spencer averaged 5.2 points and 5.4 rebounds per game throughout his NBA career.
