Just five minutes into Wednesday night’s game against the Cleveland Cavaliers, Joel Embiid created Philadelphia 76ers history. Embiid achieved 10,000 points in his career with a driving layup that gave him an and-1 opportunity in the first quarter. Embiid completed the record in 373 games, surpassing Allen Iverson as the Sixers player. Who needed the fewest games to score 10,000 points? It’s obviously incredible that Embiid reached 10,000 points in fewer games than Iverson and Barkley. But what’s even more amazing is how he did it despite missing the first two. And a half seasons of his career due to injury. Imagine that he would have reached this milestone a long time ago if he had been healthy to begin his career. With his achievement, Embiid became the eighth centre in the NBA’s active roster to reach 10,000 points, and he did so in 100 fewer games than any other player on the list.
