The Ottawa Senators signed 21-year-old defenseman Jake Sanderson for an eight-year contract worth $8.05 annually. Jake joins the Sens as yet another young cornerstone as they look for their maiden Stanley Cup.
The deal, worth $64.4m, will kick out in 2024-25 as Jake has one more year left in his entry contract. The Ottawa Senators signed Jake Sanderson as fifth overall in the 2020 NHL Draft. They signed him to a three-year, entry-level contract in 2022.

Sanderson debuted for the Sens against the Sabres, he scored his first NHL goal in a 4-1 loss against the Vegas Golden Knights. He played 77 games in the league, scoring 4 goals and assisting 28 times, contributing a total of 32 points. Jake made waves in the team, with the second-most average ice time and power-play ice time.
Before entering the NHL, Jake appeared for the University of North Dakota for two seasons and represented the States in the World Junior Championships in 2017.
The Sens are trying out a formula quite seen in recent years, building a Stanley Cup-worthy side through the Draft Picks. Tampa Bay Lightning and Colorado Avalanche are the most recent examples. Ottawa has stockpiled talent and developed them in the form of Brady Tkachuk, Tim Stutzle, and Thomas Chabot. The Sens are attempting a playoff run and a possible maiden title.
They have acquired Vladimir Tarasenko on a one-year deal worth $5m AAV, adding experience and offensive attacks to the team. Jake’s addition would add more stamina and agile skating to the defense.
