Onlooked by a packed crowd, Florida Everblades came back from behind in the third period to sweep Idaho Steelheads and lift their second straight Kelly Cup title at the Hertz Arena. The turn of the game appeared eight minutes into the third period when Tyler Irvine of the Everblades rebounded a goal into the net and broke the 3-3 deadlock.
Florida Everblades, appearing in their sixth and record-tying ECHL Final, won the second straight Kelly Cup. The victory marks Everblades’ third Kelly Cup championship having previously won it in 2012 and 2022. Additionally, the win means that Florida has now tied Alaska Aces, South Carolina, and Hampton Roads for the most Kelly Cups. Florida also became the fifth team to win back-to-back Kelly Cup titles, joining Hampton Roads (1991, 1992), Toledo (1993, 1994), Allen (2015, 2016), and Colorado (2017, 2018). Earlier, Florida defeated Idaho at road games to establish a good beginning. They beat Idaho in Game 1 in Overtime (3-2) while steamrolling them again in Game 2 (5-3). Steelheads and Everblades played a not-so-watch-worthy Game 3 as Florida won the Game 1-0.
The Everblades’ goaltender Cam Johnson earned the June M Kelly Playoffs MVP Award, becoming the first-ever player to win the MVP in consecutive seasons. He also joined Nick Vitucci and Dave Gagnon as the only players to win the June M Kelly Playoffs MVP twice in their careers.
