Venus Williams is preparing for a long rehabilitation process after hamstring injury

Venus Williams, a seven-time Grand Slam winner, will be sidelined for a while due to a hamstring injury that prevented her from competing.

Venus Williams, a seven-time Grand Slam winner, will be sidelined for a while due to a hamstring injury that prevented her from competing in the Australian Open last month, but the 42-year-old is determined to return to the court at some point.

Williams received a wildcard and was scheduled to compete in her 22nd Australian Open, but the twice-finalist suffered an injury while practising at the Auckland Classic.

What did Venus Williams say?

“To be honest, I was super overwhelmed by the injury,” Williams said on her YouTube channel. “I’ve been injured a long time now and I couldn’t believe I had to go back to rehab.

“After about a week, I started setting up my doctor’s appointments and started thinking about what was next for me and trying to really get a handle on how much time it’ll take for me to get back. Read More: Novak Djokovic hopeful that he can play in Indian Wells and Miami Open

“This is the kind of injury that you have to let it rest a bit before you can start to do serious rehab … You have to walk before you run and I’m starting to walk pretty well. Hopefully, I’ll be running soon, but for now, I’ll not be playing tennis.”

Williams, who has won two US Open titles and five Wimbledon championships, is currently ranked 664th in the world after making her first appearance in a competitive match in Auckland since being eliminated in the first round of the US Open last year.
