World No. 1 Iga Swiatek believes knowing how to play both attacking and defensive tennis should be a goal of every tennis player. She cited the examples of tennis greats Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic to urge tennis players to learn both techniques.
The Pole is currently participating in the 2024 Madrid Open. She has reached the fourth round of the event by beating America’s Bernarda Pera 6-3, 6-2. After the match, she was asked how the field has now become aggressive and about the surge of counterpunchers in recent years.
To this, Swiatek first said that they are playing with more speed and physically they were are ready to react faster, and that is why they play faster. Later, she stated that players should learn from Djokovic and Nadal to develop techniques in both approaches of the game. Also Read: “She’s More Soft-Spoken. “But I would say, you know, having both innings combined and being able to do both, like, I don’t know, Rafa and Novak, they can play great in defense and you know, kind of be patient and also they can attack well.”
“I think this should be the goal of every tennis player. You know, that’s why we are kind of working on both, but for sure there are many girls right now who are playing fast serve and fast first ball. I don’t know. I can’t really tell, you but I don’t mind,” she added. Also Read: Andy Murray vs Andrea Vavassori Match prediction, head-to-head, preview, and live stream | Barcelona Open
