The Golden State Warriors defeated the Houston Rockets 116-101 on Friday night as they successfully defended their home court. For the second time this season, Klay Thompson played the second night of a back-to-back and gave the Warriors everything he had.
When the Rockets stormed out to a 12-5 lead early on, things looked bleak for the Warriors. Golden State has had several unimpressive performances this season. So a loss to a bottom-dwelling team like the Rockets on the second half of a back-to-back was not out of the question.
Klay Thompson, fortunately for Dub Nation, made sure that wouldn’t occur. With his 7 points in the opening frame, Thompson assisted the Warriors in tying the game at 26. Nevertheless, Golden State went on an 18-5 run to start the second quarter and never looked back. On Friday, DiVincenzo and Jordan Poole, who both had 15 points, briefly took control of the game. Poole also contributed 8 assists. Kevon Looney grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds. Baldwin scored 11 points to lead the Warriors’ bench scorers.
Klay Thompson made NBA history
Klay Thompson, a five-time NBA All-Star, led the way with 42 points, seven rebounds, and one assist (on 12 of 17 shooting from outside the arc).
He also established an NBA record because this was the second time in 2022–23 that he made 12 three-pointers in a single game.
Earlier this month, the four-time NBA Champion shot 12/16 from the three-point range against the Oklahoma City Thunder. Thompson has played in 48 games this season. And has averages of 21.9 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per contest (while shooting 40.8% from the three-point range). According to ESPN Stats & Data, Klay Thompson is the only player in NBA history to make 12 3-pointers in a season across multiple games. They both arrived in February.
He currently has three games in his career with 12 triples, which is the most in NBA history. After matches of 13 and 12 in 2016, Thompson broke a tie with teammate Stephen Curry. Who also had two such games, as the NBA record-holder with a 14-trey game in 2018.
The Warriors, who are currently 30-30, will get a day off before playing home to the Timberwolves on Sunday.
