The first day of All-Star Weekend was concluded with Team Pau winning the event at Vivint Arena in Salt Lake City on Friday. While New Orleans Pelicans guard Jose Alvarado was named the NBA Jordan Rising Star MVP.
Alvarado scored 13 points in the semifinal contest, which helped Team Pau defeat Team Deron 40-25 with ease. Then, in the championship game against Team Joakim, he made the game-winning three-pointer (which he had called before).

“I’m leaving on top. Gasol admitted that his coaching career may be his “one and done.”
“I had no idea that was possible in the Rising Star game. Grimes stated, “I should have signalled the officials to call a technical or anything. “It was all in good fun, but tonight I was aiming for the win.”
“That might not have been (legal), but he was doing okay,” Jose Alvarado said.
The four teams fought in semifinal games with a target score of 40 and included 21 first- and second-year NBA players as well as seven G League players.

Fittingly, the Jordan Rising Star championship was decided by a 3-pointer on Friday at Vivint Arena.
Team Pau defeated Team Joakim 25-20 thanks to a 3-pointer from New Orleans Pelicans to guard Jose Alvarado from the right wing. The third 3-pointer to bring a game to its intended score came from Alvarado. And the same thing happened earlier in the night during the semifinal games. Quentin Grimes, a second-year guard, made a lasting impression in the championship game by scoring 14 points on 5-for-8 shooting following a scorching effort in his semifinal game. At one point, Grimes propelled Team Joakim and led 18-16, but Team Pau’s poise saved them. Paolo Banchero of the Orlando Magic scored four points, Benedict Mathurin of the Indiana Pacers scored seven points, and Scottie Barnes of the Toronto Raptors scored six points in addition to Alvarado’s five.
