“It doesn’t matter until you win the NBA Championship!” Joel Embiid after scoring 70 points

During the Philadelphia 76ers vs. San Antonio Spurs game on January 22, 2024, Joel Embiid created history. He scored 70 points, 18 rebounds, and five assists. Embiid was unstoppable and became the only player in NBA history to have such stats in a game.

Later, during the post-game interview, he was asked about his feelings after scoring 70 points against the Philadelphia 76ers.

Joel Embiid said:

“It doesn’t really mean anything until you win the whole thing (NBA Championship).”

He won the 2024 NBA Most Valuable Player award, made six NBA All-Star appearances, is part of the 2024 All-NBA First Team, and is also a two-time NBA scoring champion in 2022 and 2024. The only glory in his NBA career left is the NBA Championship.

In the last five years, the 76ers have made five consecutive playoff appearances but have lost in the conference semifinals in four playoffs.

  • 2022-23: Lost in the Conference semi-finals against the Celtics by 3-4.
  • 2021-22: Lost in the Conference semi-finals against the Miami Heat by 2-4.
  • 2020-21: Lost in the Conference semi-finals against the Hawks by 3-4
  • 2019-20: Lost in the first round against the Celtics by 0-4.
  • 2018-19: Lost in the Conference semi-finals against the Raptors by 3-4.

Currently, in the 2024–24 season, he is averaging 36.1 points, 11.6 rebounds, and 5.9 assists per game. Moreover, the Philadelphia 76ers are among the top three teams in the Eastern Conference. This concludes that Embiid and his teammates are leading the 76ers to a title opportunity.
