“He is my inspiration!” Joel Embiid talks about his favorite basketball player

During the Philadelphia 76ers vs. San Antonio Spurs game on January 22, 2024, Joel Embiid created history. He scored 70 points, 18 rebounds, and five assists. Embiid was unstoppable and became the only player in NBA history to have such stats in a game.

Later, during the post-game interview, he was asked about his inspiration, which he answered.

Joel Embiid said:

“Kobe was my guy; he is the reason why I started playing basketball.”

He also mentioned, “It’s funny because this was the same night he had 81; you know, that was my favorite player.”

Interestingly, Embiid scored 70 points the same day, 18 years later, when Kobe Bryant scored 81. So far, Embiid has followed in his inspiration’s footsteps.
