Who is Liam Lawson? Replacemaent of Juri Vips amid after his racial slur

Juri Vips was suspended from the team after his usage of a racial slur during a live game streaming.

Juri Vips, the Estonian driver was suspended from red Bull amid his racist language. The driver was livestreaming with his friend Liam Lawson when he used the slur. RBR axed him immediately. Red Bull now have confirmed a replacement for the Estonian.

“Liam Lawson is of course taking over that role, following the statement about Juri Vips. Jehan Daruvala is doing great and we are following his progress with interest, as is Dennis Hauger, who are all eligible for super licences. That’s our coverage at the moment,”

Liam Lawson is a New Zealand motor racer. Former Grand Prix winner and Kiwi racer Ken Smith mentors him. Lawson was born in Hastings on 11th February 2002. He began karting at the age of seven. The young racer won several championships across New Zealand. He raced in several Australasian tournaments setting records all the way.

Racing Career So Far.

The 20 year old racer then competed in the inaugural FIA Formula 3 championship in 2019. He started his career with MP Motorsport alongside Simo Laaksonen and Richard Verschoor. The kiwi driver scored two podiums in the season. He finished eleventh in the championship with 41 points.

Lawson transferred to Hitech after the inaugural season. He finished first at the second race. The Kiwi managed to win two more times. At the end of the season, he was placed fifth with 146 points. In addition, he had one pole and a fastest lap.

He joined the Red Bull Junior Team in February 2019. Lawson shifted to F2 in the 2021 season where he finished ninth with one win and three podiums. Liam took part in the Abu Dhabi Young Driver’s Test at the end of the 2021 season. He serves as the reserve driver for the Alpha Tauri in the current season. The young New Zealander is currently competing in the Formula 2 championship with Carlin. He is right now placed at fifth position.
