The Red Bull F1 team was unstoppable last season. They won 21 races in the season and were only one win away from a clean sweep. The credit goes not only to their drivers but also to team technical officer Adrian Newey. The RB19 was a beast, and in almost every race, Max Verstappen finished 10+ seconds ahead of everyone.
But this season, the team decided to make major changes to the car despite winning 21 races last time. The team decided to go with a vertical S-duct inlet and vertical side pods. This is something that various teams like Mercedes tried but failed.
Regarding all these changes, Red Bull Technical Officer Adrian Newey said:
“We knew the others would copy us! If we had only developed last year’s car further, it would not have been enough.”
Undoubtedly, the changes have worked for the team in pre-season testing. In both days of pre-season testing, Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez placed the car in the top two. Moreover, during the first day of pre-season testing, Verstappen finished 1.1 seconds faster than others.
