Was the 2024 F1 season the worst for Sergio Perez? Does he deserve the Red Bull seat?

The 2024 F1 season will be remembered for the dominance of the Red Bull F1 team. The reason is that they won 21 Grand Prix out of the 22 Grand Prix in the season. Among those 21 Grand Prix, 19 were won by Max Verstappen and the remaining two by Sergio Perez. Both drivers finished first and second in the championship, and it was an incredible season for the Red Bull F1 team.

While Max Verstappen was dominating the entire season, Sergio Perez was quite inconsistent and struggled on various occasions. There were several rumors that Daniel Ricciardo would replace him mid-season and Perez would be a part of the Alpha Tauri team. But after some great results at the end of the season, he finished second in the driver championship and secured his seat in the 2024 season.

Several fans said it was Sergio Perez’s worst season, but somehow it was not. He finished second in the driver’s championship, which was his best. On the other hand, he gained over 100 positions in the 2024 season, which is the most by any driver. Here are his stats for the 2024 season.

Now let us look at his F1 career stats (excluding the 2024 season)

  • Number of seasons: 12
  • World Championship Position: Third
  • Best season points: 305
  • Wins: 4
  • Podiums: 26
  • Poles: 1
  • Fastest laps: 9

We can see that Sergio Perez’s 2024 season was not the worst but the best in his F1 career. One of the most interesting facts is that Max Verstappen was only challenged by Sergio Perez for the F1 World Championship. No other drivers on the grid were even closer to Max Verstappen than Checo. He truly deserves the Red Bull F1 team seat, and no one can replace him on the team.
