The Brazilian tennis superstar, Beatriz Haddad Maia, defeated Qinwen Zheng to lift the 2023 WTA Elite Trophy. This is her third WTA singles career title and the eighth overall in her career. Before coming into the tournament, she had lost three out of her four matches, but in the Elite Trophy, she won all four games she had played, and that too in straight sets.
She won her first title of the 2023 season, and her best performance came when it was most needed. Compared to her past couple of seasons, this season has been the worst for Haddad Maia. But winning the WTA Elite Trophy is worth every effort and loss throughout the season. She defeated top-seed players like Madison Keys, Caroline Garcia, Daria Kasatkina, and Qinwen Zheng in the final.
This final is surely one of the best games of the year. The reason is that both players gave their very best to win the game, and both rounds of the game went to the deciding set. Game time was nearly three hours, and in the end, the result was 7-611 in the first set and 7-64 in the second set. Both sets went down to the deciding round, and Haddad Maia managed to win both sets and the game.
