On 10th August 2003, Manchester City’s new home stadium was inaugurated namedย  โ€˜Eastlandsโ€™. For the inauguration match, they invited the Catalan club Barcelona for a friendly match.

It was initially built for the Commonwealth Games for ยฃ110 million. Manchester converted it into their home. They spent another ยฃ30 million to add the football facilities.ย

In front ofย  47,726 people, City took the lead in the 38th minute, thanks to Nicolas Anelkaโ€™s strike. Barcelona’s Javier Saviola scored the equalizer at 58th minute which was denied again 9 minutes later by Cityโ€™s new signing Trevor Sinclair.

Andrรฉs Iniesta almost had netted the 2nd goal but was cleared off the line by Richard Dunne.

Nowadays we know Eastlands as Etihad Stadium.ย
