Last season, Liverpool’s standards fell across the board. The Reds scored 92 points and allowed just 26 goals in 38 games during the 2021/22 season. Unfortunately, the previous time around, Jurgen Klopp’s team achieved just 75 points and gave up 47 times, substantially worsening these stats. The defense has to be strengthened and revitalized, and Edmond Tapsoba has been offered as a potential fix.
Which teams are Targeting Tapsoba?
Although they are one of several teams attempting to sabotage their agreement, Tottenham Hotspur is making headway in negotiations for the center-back. One of those teams is Liverpool, who closely monitor the situation along with Manchester United and Newcastle. Additionally, it was reported last month that Bayer Leverkusen has put a price tag of about £61 million for the 24-year-old’s services and that Arsenal are interested in signing him. Key Stats about Tapsoba
The defender has 137 appearances for the club in all competitions since joining the German team in 2020, solidifying his place as one of Xabi Alonso’s key players. The 35-cap international has averaged 1.1 interceptions, 1.5 tackles, and three clearances per game across 33 Bundesliga appearances this season. He has also won 62% of his ground duels.
He scores in the top 6% for successful take-ons, progressive passes, and progressive carries per 90. This incredible confidence is validated by these statistics. He seems ideally suited for English football and might relieve Virgil van Dijk, who has had a difficult season, of some of the pressure. The Dutch giant has been dribbling past more frequently (0.3 vs. 0.1 per game) and has committed more errors that resulted in shots or goals (2 vs. 0), resulting in a fall in average rating over the last year from 7.18 to 6.97.

It is not being suggested that the domineering 31-year-old be benched; rather, it is being noted that Tapsoba has an unusual composure that is mostly reminiscent of Van Dijk’s early years at Anfield. Both players show a sense of composure that permeates their club, and Tapsoba might be an incredible partner for his fellow defender in the coming season.
