Joao Cancelo is a Portuguese professional footballer who currently plays for Premier League club Manchester City. He plays in the full-back or wing-back position for his club. Cancelo has one of the most emerging players in recent years as he has performed exceptionally well for both club and country. He joined Manchester City in 2019 and has been performing incredibly well for them to date. During the previous season, Cancelo and club manager Pep Guardiola had some differences over his lack of playing time because of which the player was sent on a loan to the Bundesliga club FC Bayern Munich. Joao Cancelo is the most complete fullback in the present generation of football. He is great at both the assets of his game. FC Barcelona are in search of a “pure right-back” since last year’s summer window but the club’s financial situation was in worse condition due to which they weren’t able to cash in on the deal.
After winning the La Liga and Supercopa last season, Barca’s financial condition became better and now they have decided to cash in on signings of big players this summer transfer window. One of the signings is Joao Cancelo, especially after the sudden departure of Ousmane Dembele to PSG. Barca wants to deploy a strong right back who also knows how to overlap with right winger Raphina and Cancelo fits the role perfectly well.
According to Fabrizio Romano on Twitter-“Joao Cancelo has agreed personal terms with Barça, he wants the move… and Xavi wants him since January as a priority target. Talks now ongoing with Manchester City over deal structure”. Barca plans to use the amount they would get from Dembele’s deal to complete the deal with Cancelo. If they are not able to make the signing happen then Barca would try to sign in Ivan Fresneda who has always been an alternative option in the list for the club.
