Manchester City Treble-winning captain Illkay Gundogan has finally decided to leave the club after 7 years of great service and an incredible journey. He joined the club in 2016 after the arrival of Pep Guardiola as the new manager of Manchester City. Gundogan was Pep’s first signing as the manager of City even though there were many question marks on the signing at the time Guardiola supported the player and said that “ Injury is not a matter of concern for us we’ll wait for him to recover for as long as it takes. He’s an exceptional talent and we are happy to have him in the club”. He was backed by the manager and it paid off so well for the club in the end. He made 188 appearances and scored 60 goals for Manchester City.
Gundogan won many accomplishments as a player and captain of Manchester City. Over his 7 years tenure with the club, he won five Premier League titles, two FA Cups, four League Cups, two Community Shields, and the UEFA Champions League. He arrived at the club as a young man and leaves as a club legend.

On June 26, 2024, FC Barcelona confirmed the signing of former Manchester City captain Illkay Gundogan on Instagram and Twitter. Gundogan has signed a contract for the next two seasons plus an optional third. The German international will have a release clause of €400m inserted into his contract. After weeks of waiting, all the culers can finally be happy and excited about the signing of the German midfield maestro.
It’s a major signing for the club especially after the departure of their club legend Sergio Busquets. The Spanish Giants needed a reliable player in their midfield and went for the best option available in the summer transfer market.
