FIFA World Cup 2022: Saudi Arabia Declares a Holiday on Wednesday to Commemorate their 2-1 victory over Argentina

Saudi Arabia pulled off one of the most shocking comebacks in this FIFA World Cup 2022 as Saudi Arabia clinched an astounding 2-1 win.

Saudi Arabia pulled off one of the most shocking comebacks in this FIFA World Cup 2022. A match where Argentina was destined to win all 3 points failed to even pull back a point as Saudi Arabia clinched an astounding 2-1 win over the Copa America winners.

The fans were ecstatic, as was the entire Saudi population. According to reports, the country has declared a holiday on Wednesday to commemorate the historic victory. According to reports, King Salman approved the national holiday after Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman suggested it. As per the Saudi Press Agency, all public and private sector employees and students will be given a day off.

The public holiday will be for all state employees “and the private sector, and male and female students in all educational stages”, the government announced on Tuesday evening.

On top of that, Saudi Arabia became the 1st Asian side to beat Argentina by a margin of 1 goal.

How crucial was Saudi Arabia against Argentina in their opening game of the FIFA World Cup 2022?

The match did begin with Argentina being the favourites and so it did for the first 15 minutes. Lionel Messi’s side was offered a penalty after a clumsy challenge on Paredes. Messi calmly finished from the spot to put Argentina forward. However, Saudi Arabia did not lose hope and was very clinical in its defensive line. As they were able to disallow 3 goals from Argentina as their offside trap worked every time.

In the 2nd half, the Asian side came out with a different vibe as they were charged with positivity in their team. Just after 3 mins into the 2nd half Saleh Al-Shehri pulled one back for Saudi Arabia. Not too long after Salem Al-Dawsari double their lead in a jiffy and that goal made all the difference in the game. Saudi Arabia defended with all their might and dragged Messi and Co. to the final whistle and pulled the win.
