Virat Kohli has made more mistakes this season, than in his entire career: Sehwag, Manjrekar analyses performance in IPL 2022

Kohli's numbers are now the worst since the 2012 season.

Indian star batsman Virat Kohli‘s lackluster IPL season ended yesterday on a disappointing note after he was dismissed by Prasidh Krishna on 7 runs in Qualifier 2 against Rajasthan Royals.

On Friday Kohli opened the innings alongside the skipper Faf du Plessis in Qualifier 2 against Rajasthan Royals of the ongoing IPL 2022 at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Chasing a wider and shorter delivery from Prasidh Krishna, Kohli sent a healthy edge through to the wicketkeeper Sanju Samson, who took an easy catch.

Sehwag and Manjrekar on Kohli’s disappointing show

Former India players Virender Sehwag and Sanjay Manjrekar discussed in detail the dismissal and Kohli’s performance on a whole this season.

Sehwag said that Kohli has probably committed more mistakes this season of IPL compared to his entire career.

“When you are out of form, you are just trying to middle every ball to get confidence. In the first over, he did let go of some deliveries, but this is exactly what happens when you are not in form, you go chasing after balls. Sometimes luck favours you, the ball does not catch the edge of your bat. But it did not happen this way. This is not the Virat Kohli we know; this is perhaps some other Virat Kohli this season,”

Sehwag said.

“The number of mistakes he has made this season, he probably has not made as many in his entire career. When you are not scoring runs, you try to do different things and then you are dismissed in different ways. This time, Virat Kohli has been dismissed in all the ways possible. He could have possibly let go of that ball or he could have gone hard at it. He disappointed his fans and RCB fans, it was such a big match,”

Sehwag added.

Manjrekar also slammed Kohli’s approach in the dismissal delivery. He criticized Virat’s approach of staying in front foot.

“Virat wanting to be on the front foot no matter what is not helping his cause. Mental toughness takes you far sure, but technical issues cannot be ignored completely. Crunch game.. front foot to a short of length bouncing ball cost him his wicket again,”

Sanjay Manjrekar tweeted.

Kohli ended his IPL 2022 campaign, scoring 341 runs in 16 innings at just 22.73 and a strike rate of 115.99, laced with two half-centuries.

RCB ended their tournament after suffering a seven-wicket loss to Rajasthan Royals in Qualifier 2. Rajasthan hence sealed their place in IPL 2022 final against Gujarat Titans on May 29 at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
