The head-coach of the Australian Cricket Team, Andrew McDonald tests covid positive owing to which, he’ll be unable to join the team for their tour to Sri Lanka. He was supposed to catch the flight with the squad but was not able to do so. However, according to sources, McDonald will only be missing the opening of the SL vs AUS game tour. He will apparently be present in Sri Lanka to back up his team. It’ll be before the start of the 2nd T20I between the teams. Not to mention, the 2nd match of the tour will be played on the 8th of June, 2022.
As a matter of fact, the Australia tour of Sri Lanka is McDonald’s first as the full-time head-coach after he replaced Justin Langer. He was the former head coach of Australia. Along with McDonald, this will be the first two-Test series for Daniel Vettori and Andre Borovec as assistant coaches as well. In the absence of McDonald, Michael Di Venuto will look over the responsibilities concerning the Australian squad. The backroom personnel also include spin bowling coach of the team, S Sriram and Clint McKay.
