7 November: Indian batting stalwart, Virat Kohli wins this month’s ICC Men’s Player of the Month. After some phenomenal performances in the shortest format of the game, the 33-year-old has proved that he still has the same energy.
Along with the former Indian captain, Zimbabwe’s Sikandar Raza and South African David Miller were nominated for the award. However, Kohli claimed the title.
What makes this even more special is the fact that a couple of months back cricket experts all over the world were highly criticizing this stylish batter. However, Virat managed to stay committed to his passion and worked as hard as he could. Which included a month-long break from cricket. In which, Virat claims to have not touched the bat even once.
The most special performance by Virat Kohli
Virat Kohli batted in only four innings in the previous month. Nonetheless, the star batter churned out three unforgettable knocks. Out of the three the magical and very crucial unbeaten 82 against arch-rivals Pakistan in the ongoing T20 World Cup, is etched in every cricket supporter, be it Indian or non-Indian.
The impact and significance of this innings by Kohli were so extraordinary that it left the whole cricket fraternity out of breath and hail the King.
“It is a great honor for me to have been voted the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for October. Being chosen as the standout player by fans across the globe as well as the panel makes this accolade even more special for me,” Kohli said after winning the award.
“I want to pay tribute to the other nominees who performed so well during the month and also to my teammates, who continue to support me to perform to the best of my ability,” he added.
