Only a few weeks to go before the Indian T20 carnival kicks off in the summer of 2022. The 15th edition is all set to be a much bigger and grand affair with 2 new franchises joining the hunt for the coveted title. IPL 15 will be played across 4 venues in the state of Maharashtra over 65 days. The IPL Governing Council alongside BCCI is upbeat to introduce a few new rules in the tournament. Recently, the MCC updated its Code of Laws by amending some of the existing rules in the game.
The alterations in the Code Of Laws will be enforced in October 2022 in international cricket. In a measure to let the players and match officials be accustomed to the changes, the BCCI has decided to impose the new laws in the upcoming season of the marquee league.
2 DRS referrals available Every Match
From now on, whenever a player gets caught, the new batter will be the one to take the strike in the next ball notwithstanding a cross of ends. The only exception to this will be in the case of final delivery of an over when a change of strike is mandatory.
“Upon a catch dismissal, irrespective of whether the batsmen have crossed or not the incoming batsman will take the strike, except if it’s the last ball of the over,”
The BCCI statement asserted
Another major change will be the increase in the number of allowances to take a DRS review. Teams will now get 2 DRS referrals in each innings in IPL 15. Furthermore, the use of saliva to shine the ball is banned. The act of running the non-striker out in case he is trying to back up while the delivery is being bowled will now no more be touted as unfair means of play. This act is also infamously referred to as Mankading. It created a huge uproar in the cricket fraternity back in 2018 when R Ashwin dismissed Jos Buttler in this manner.

Big change in the Super Over rules
In addition, in case of a match in the playoffs stage, if the match result can not be obtained even after a Super Over or successive Super Overs within the permissible time limit, the side with more points in the league stage will be adjudged the winner.
The pandemic situation across the country is slowly and steadily subsiding. However, the BCCI has called to bring in a precautionary rule in the IPL. If a team fails to field a fit XI, the BCCI will do its best to reschedule the fixture to an alternate date. In the event of rescheduling not being possible, the BCCI will entrust the issue to the IPL Technical Committee. The decision made by the Committee will be final and binding.
