Former Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi had blasted Dinesh Kaneria for the serious allegations levelled against on him by former leg spinner. He also added that Dinesh Kaneria is accusing him to get cheap fame, money and publicity from it.
In the past also, Dinesh Kaneria has accused Shahid Afridi for disrespecting and mistreating him in the team. He also alleged that Shahid Afridi mistreated him for being Hindu and pressurized him to convert to Islam to find a place in the team. He branded him as a “liar”, “manipulator” and a “characterless person”.
Dinesh Kaneria was like my younger brother: Shahid Afridi
Shahid Afridi talking to Geo news denied all the allegations and said he was trying to understand the religion at the time Kaneria is talking about. He also said that, Dinesh Kaneria was like a younger brother to me. Shahid Afridi and Dinesh Kaneria also played together in the same department.
He also taked about the Dinesh Kaneria’s character, who was involved in spot fixing in England. He was convicted there and is facing a ban since then.
“Kaneria was like my younger brother and I played with him in the department for many years. If my attitude was bad then why he did not complain to the Pakistan Cricket Board or the department he was playing for. He is giving interviews to our enemy country which can incite religious sentiments,”
Afridi said.
Shahid Afridi also questioned Dinesh Kaneria for why did it take so long for him to admit this if it all happened. He also asked why he did not complaint to either Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) or the department he played for.

Shahid Afridi was jealous of me: Dinesh Kaneria
Dinesh Kaneria also added that Afridi did not want him in the Pakistan or department team. He said that Afridi used to bench him in all games of the department when he was captain and used to taunt him. He also added that he only got games after Younis Khan became the new captain of the department. He also said that Afridi used to provoke other members of the Pakistan team against him out of jealousy.
“He didn’t want me to be in the team. He was a liar; a manipulator because he’s a characterless person. However, my focus was only on cricket and I used to ignore all these tactics. Shahid Afridi was the only person who would go to other players and provoke them against me. I was performing well and he was jealous of me. I am proud that I played for Pakistan. I was grateful,”
Dinesh Kaneria said to the Indian media.
It remains to be seen if Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will investigate this matter or not.
Dinesh Kaneria is Pakistan’s highest wicket-taking spinner in test cricket.
