The Sri Lanka Cricket Board releases a list of centrally contracted players for the year 2022. The board has also offered ten domestic cricketers contracts for the same term, with categories varying from A1 to C1. The complete list includes 19 players, with test captain Dimuth Karunaratne and ace spinner Wannidu Hasaranga receiving the topmost contract.
Unlike last year, all players have signed their central contracts, says Sri Lanka Cricket CEO Ashley de Silva. Prior to the 2021 season contract signing, players were in disagreement with the board about having performance based contracts. However, owing to the economic crisis in Sri Lanka, the players made no fuss this time around. Furthermore, the board also raised the bar for fitness levels, a gesture that wasn’t taken well last year.
Karunaratne and de Silva receive top contract despite only playing one format
The A1 contract includes just four players, Dimuth Karunaratne, Dhananjaya de Silva, Dushmantha Chameera, and Wanindu Hasaranga. However, unlike Chameera and Hasaranga, who are top performers in every format, de Silva and Karunaratne play only tests. Having said that, test skipper Karunaratne has been in top form over the last few months and currently ranks 6th in the world.
Sri Lankan veteran Angelo Mathews grabs a B1 contract this time around, after being omitted from last year’s list. Other players included in the B1 category are limited overs skipper Dasun Shanaka, Pathum Nissanka, Dinesh Chandimal and Kusal Perera. Notable names such as Niroshan Dickwella, Danushka Gunathilaka, and Kusal Mendis are included in the C2 category.

C2 Category – Niroshan Dickwella, Danushka Gunathilaka, and Kusal Mendis.
Domestic players receiving a central contract are will receive a separate category. The domestic players who received contracts are: Praveen Jayawickrama, Oshada Fernando, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Lakshan Sandakan, Maheesh Theekshana, Nuwan Pradeep, Binura Fernando, Lahiru Kumara, Minod Bhanuka, Kamindu Mendis.
