“Got suspended for 2 months” Gambhir Talks about his School Life

Veteran Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir is quite popular for his honest remarks on the game. Recently in an interview with renowned sports presenter Jatin Sapru, recalled his entire cricket journey. An aggressive feisty southpaw, Gambhir has been an unsung hero of 2 World Cup-winning campaigns, 2 times IPL winning captain, and was the ICC Test Player Of The Year in 2009. GG will return to IPL as a mentor to the brand new franchise Lucknow Super Giants.

As a young budding cricketer, Gambhir never succumbed to any hurdle and moreover aimed to beat all odds. Always being dynamically active on the field, he stayed the same even when he played international cricket and never shied to show his emotions. Reminiscing his school life, Gambhir spoke about how his school suspended him in class 12 because of fighting in an inter-school cricket tournament.

“I’ve got into a lot of fights in school… In 12th standard, when every kid wants to go to school, attend the last days, and I was playing Ranji Trophy as well – I got suspended for two months. I straightaway sat in the board exams after that. Even my prefect badge was taken away. We had gone to Mayo College and were playing this ITSC tournament and we got into a fight with DPS,”

Gambhir recalled.

“The headmaster starting crying” Gambhir recalls a Shoe fight

He also shared in the interview how he and his friends ruined a beautiful portrait while they were staying in the Oman House.

“We also did another thing which I now realize was very wrong. As kids, you are full of fervour. We were staying in Oman House. The man on whose name that House was built, had brought a huge portrait with a massive frame from Oman. At night, we had a shoe fight with spikes and all and ruined that picture. The headmaster of that House starting crying,”

Gambhir said.

The 40-year-old is now actively seen as a cricket expert and commentator as well as serves as the MP of East Delhi. The Padma Shri awardee represented India in 58 Tests, 147 ODIs, and 37 T20Is. He has scored over 10,000 international runs with 9 Test tons and 11 ODI hundreds.
