Ahead of the 15th edition of the IPL, CSK have decided to shift their practice camp from Chennai to Surat. As confirmed by the IPL’s Governing Council, the IPL will start on the 26th of March in Mumbai. As soon as the official news came out, the Super Kings decided to tweak their plans. The team generally sets up a practice camp in Chennai ahead of the IPL, but this time around they will be seen practicing in Surat.

CSK shift their practice camp from Chennai to Surat
The reason behind this shift is very interesting. The Lalbhai Contractor Stadium in Surat recently built its pitches with the same soil as it is in Mumbai. While the pitches in Chennai tend to be on the slower side, the red soil in Mumbai offers pace and bounce. Thus, the CSK decided to shift their practice camp from Chennai to Surat. This will help the team in adjusting to the Mumbai-like conditions in a better way.
The defending champions, Chennai Super Kings, have been placed in Group B as the BCCI announced two groups for this season of the IPL. Similar to the format used in IPL 2011, the ten teams will play twice against 5 teams and only once against the other four. To simplify, CSK will play twice against MI, RCB, SRH, PBKS, and GT. However, the Super Kings will play DC, KKR, LSG, and RR just once.
Chennai Super Kings had a fairly decent IPL auction. The team had retained Ravindra Jadeja(16 crores), MS Dhoni(12 crores), Moeen Ali(8 crores), Ruturaj Gaikwad(6 crores) ahead of the auction. For the first time in the IPL auction’s history, CSK spent more than 10 crores for a single player as they bought Deepak Chahar for INR 14 crores.
