Big Bash League 12: Renegades register victory against the Heats despite Micheal Neser hat trick

Geelong: Melbourne Renegades make three out of three in style at Kardinia Park in South Geelong. The former champions defeated BBL02 champions Brisbane Heat despite Micheal Neser registering the first hat trick of the season.

James Peirson won the toss and elected to bat first. The Heat failed to fulfill a batting masterclass as a wait for a high-scoring game continues. Colin Munro and Bryant departed early in the game leaving a hole in the batting order. Matt Renshaw and Sam Billings did some damage control and James Peirson took in after Billings was dismissed. James Peirson top-scored for the Heat by scoring 45 off 30. However, the wickets fell quickly on the other end. At the end of the 20th over, The Heat put up a meager total of 137/8.

As cynical as it sounds, only three people reached double digits at the GMBHA for Brisbane. Tom Rogers and Akeal Hossein took up four and three wickets respectively amongst the Gades bowlers. Additionally, Mujeeb-Ur-Rahman took the other wicket.

In the chase, the Gades plummeted in the beginning. The openers failed to connect with the play and fell prey to Micheal Neser.

He dismissed Sam Harper on the first ball of the innings. In the last delivery of the first over, Neser took out Jake Fraser-McGurk. Coming back in the third over, Neser dismissed Nic Maddinson on the first delivery and Jonathan Wells on the second.

However, Aaron Finch stood their ground for the Gades giving a solid hand to Andre Russell. Dre Russ put out an explosive show of cricket, blasting boundaries in his own beast mode. He notched up a fifty (57) off 42 deliveries. Post his dismissal, Akeal Hossein took charge of the hard-hitting finish. He alongside veteran Aaron Finch who was playing slow to maintain the loss of wickets bottled up the momentum to their favor. Akeal departed when they needed 9 more runs from 7 balls.

Will Sutherland struck a six in the last ball and Aaron Finch closed with a four to make the Gades another scintillating victory. Andre Russell was adjudged the man of the match for his blusterous performance.

Both teams remain at the previous positions, the Renegades at 2nd and the Heat at 7th. Brisbane plays the table toppers Strikers on Friday while The Gades meet up with the Hurricanes.
