Andrew Tate is an American-British social media personality, businessman, and former professional kickboxer. He moved from the United Kingdom to Romania in 2017. Lately, he has been in the news for various reasons such as his misogynistic commentary and behavior towards women that he has openly shared on social media by being on various interviews and podcasts as well as posting various tweets on Twitter. People have pointed out as well as raised their voices against his misogynistic behavior but he refuses to change his viewpoint on the matter and continued his antics. Due to his misogynistic commentary, he was suspended from various social media platforms. He and his brother recently got detained in Romania. Why did Andrew Tate and his brother got arrested?
On December 29, 2022, Andrew Tate and his brother (Tristan Tate) were detained for 24 hours by Romanian DIICOT officials about allegations of human trafficking, rape, and forming an organized crime unit related to his webcam studio.
The Romanian DIICOT officials raided Tate’s villa as well as the house of a former policewoman suspected of being involved. Prosecutors stated that they had found and identified six women who were being sexually exploited by the suspects throughout the capital of Romania. the women were even coerced into filming pornography content by the suspects which was later sold on specialized websites to many buyers for a cost. Both Tate brothers, a former policewoman, and an unnamed fourth Romania individual were interrogated by DIICOT for 24 hours.
This is the second time the Tate brothers have been detained by DIICOT on April 11, 2022, Tate’s house in Pipera, Romania was raised by the police after the U.S. embassy alerted them that an American woman might be held at the property. Two women were found at the property who claimed they were being held there against their will. An investigation by DIICOT was held into human trafficking and rape, both brothers were questioned for five hours and were released. Tate later denied any wrongdoing, calling it a case of swatting.
The Romanian authorities stated that Andrew Tate’s video in response to Greta Thunberg allowed them to confirm he was in the country due to the pizza chain shown in the 2-minute rant.
