The FIA has ruled that a team must run a free practice sessions of two rounds with a driver with no more than experience of two grand prix. Williams Racing will be the first this year to try out the “apprentice driving”. Formula E Champion Nyck de Vries will be replacing Alex Albon in FP1
Nyck de Vries is a 27 year old driver from Netherlands who currently races with Mercedes EQ team in Formula E. Nyck has won the 2020-21 season and is currently placed sixth at the 2021-22 season. The Dutchman have also won the FIA Formula 2 earlier in the past. He has also won Karting Championships. Nyck is currently the reserve driver for Mercedes and McLaren Teams.

Reacying to the news, Nyck thanked the Williams team for the wonderful opportunity run in Free Practice 1.
He added “It’s great for me to get to know the team and drive the FW44, and also to get myself out on track during a Formula One weekend. Preparation for the test is going well so far and the team have been incredibly supportive of me. I’m very much looking forward to the whole experience in Spain now!”
Nyck have earlier linked with a replacement for Latifi as the Canadian struggles to give a good performance. Nyck in Formula One would be a sight to see.
