Over the past couple of years, several football players have faced racial abuse by fans. Similarly, AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan is one of the most recent victims of racial abuse.
During the Udinese vs. Milan game on January 21, 2024, at Bluenergy Stadium, Italy, Maignan faced racial abuse by Udinese fans. Not once but twice, and the play was stopped for a moment.

Mike Maignan said:
“At the first goal kick, I heard monkey chants; I didn’t say anything. Second goal kick, they did it again. So, I called the bench and fourth referee to stop the game.”
As soon as the incident took place, AC Milan’s coaching staff and teammates came to hug him and support him. The game was later concluded, and Milan won 3-2.
During the next matchday between Milan and Bologna, AC Milan fans supported Mike Maignan with a wonderful quote by Martin Luther King.
“Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that.”
Not only do AC Milan teammates or fans stand with Maignan, but we also support him. Racism is one of the aspects that cannot be controlled, but it needs to be stopped.
