After some disappointing performances at the start of the 2024 season, no one knew that Rafael Nadal would be out of the court for almost a year. His exit from sports was a bit shocking and a fact that was tough to digest. But a few months later, Nadal spoke out: “He will be returning to the court.”
Since then, there have been several debates about whether he would fail and have difficulties winning games. But that didn’t stop him, and he announced his comeback at the 2024 Brisbane Open.
Interestingly, when his draw came out for the round of 32 matches, Dominic Thiem turned out to be his opponent. Thiem has been a great opponent to several top-seeded players, and this was a great matchup. Surprisingly, the match was a completely one-sided game, as Nadal won the match in straight sets (7-5 and 6-1). Looking at his dominant performance against Thiem, it felt like he never left the court.
Later in the post-match interview, Rafael Nadal said:
“Today is an emotional and important day for me. It makes us feel proud!”
He also mentioned:
“My way to approach is to just try to enjoy every single day that I have the chance to be on the court.”
Well, Brisbane 2024 is just a small step, and he would love to win the title. Because his main goal is to win the upcoming Grand Slam tournaments as well as the Olympic Golden Medal. As Nadal has mentioned earlier, 2024 might be his last tennis season, and he wants to give it all. How many titles will Nadal win in the 2024 season? Do let us know in the comments section.
