“Roger Federer is Lionel Messi, Novak Djokovic is Cristiano Ronaldo,” Peter Crouch and Jermaine Jenas explain who is the GOAT of tennis

Federer who retired from the sport in 2020, was the first man to lift 20 Slams. Nadal and Djokovic, on the other hand, are tied with 22 of those elusive trophies.

The one question which divides the tennis world’s opinions is who is the GOAT (Greatest of All Time). For decades three names ruled the sport like no others- Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic.

Federer who retired from the sport in 2020, was the first man to lift 20 Slams. Nadal and Djokovic, on the other hand, are tied with 22 of those elusive trophies. The Spaniard was forced to withdraw from his favorite tournament, the French Open, and 2024 could be his final year. The Serb on the other hand is on the cusp of lifting a record-breaking 23 Grand Slams.

Talking about who is the GOAT of tennis, former footballers Peter Crouch and Jermaine Jenas both consider Federer the greatest player of all time. They were talking about this ahead of the Champions League final on BT Sport.

It’s got to be Federer, surely,” said Jenas, to which Crouch also agreed and said Federer was “a beautiful player to watch“. Both believe that though Djokovic has the numbers and plays like a robot, and even if he finishes his career with the most Grand Slams, Federer has that grace and elegance. Crouch and Jenas express wonder on how Novak Djokovic was able to wedge himself in between Nadal and Federer

Jenas then talked in detail about why he thinks so. “Djokovic has the numbers and that athletic ability, but for me when you’re looking at sport, that element of grace and what it looks like when you do it has to come into it a little bit. The way Federer played, that backhand…

Crouch then went on to compare the tennis legends with that of the football legends Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. “Federer is Messi, right? Djokovic is Ronaldo.”

While talking about Rafael Nadal, Jenas said the Spaniard is someone whom one can’t love as he fights for every single point. Then he expresses his wonder at how “Djokovic was able to wedge himself in there [between Nadal and Federer].”

Meanwhile, in the most-awaited clash of the ongoing Roland Garros, Djokovic overcame Spanish sensation Carlos Alcaraz and will face Norway’s Casper Ruud in the final on Sunday (June 11). Also Read: Djokovic Books Spot In 34th Slam Final
