Carlos Alcaraz has started preparing for the 2024 Wimbledon Championships by taking part in the Queen’s tournament. The grass is the court where this young gun finds it tough to move. He has struggled a great deal on grass and couldn’t even make it to the quarterfinal at Wimbledon.
To teach himself via videos, he watches the videos of the best only. Former world number one Roger Federer and Andy Murray‘s videos provide helpful insights for Alcaraz to improve his game. Roger Federer has record eight Wimbledon Championships while Murray is a two-time champion at the grass-court major.
“One of the keys to improvement on the most challenging surface on the circuit, in addition to playing more games, is to follow the example of the best. That helps a lot,” Carlos Alcaraz said, as per Estadio Deportivo.
“I’ve always said that on grass you have to move well and from there, everything else. Speaking for myself, I like to put on videos of Federer, of Murray, who are among the players who move best on grass. Also Read: Rennae Stubbs points out similarities between Serena Williams and Novak Djokovic
Know why Carlos Alcaraz did not pick Novak Djokovic’s name
According to Carlos Alcaraz, Novak Djokovic moves the same way on grass courts the way he moves on clay. This is why Carlos Alcaraz refrained from using the Serb’s videos to prepare himself for the season’s third Grand Slam event.
Sliding on grass like sliding on clay is not Alcaraz’s way of playing which is why he tries to copy Federer and Murray’s movement.
“I’m not going to talk about Djokovic because he slides like dirt and that’s not going to be my case. It’s no longer how they hit because everyone has their own style, but see how they move, and try to imitate them,” Alcaraz added.
