Former German tennis player Boris Becker feels Novak Djokovic doesn’t get the appreciation he deserves. The Serb rose to stardom after winning his maiden Grand Slam at the 2008 Australian Open, breaking the 11 Grand Slam-winning streak of Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer.
But the 36-year-old has always received hatred due to his antics, including his stance on COVID-19 vaccination during the pandemic. But the six-time Grand Slam champion Becker discloses Djokovic is actually a charming person when he is not involved in tennis-related activities. “He’s actually a very outgoing, very worldly man. Sometimes he comes across as a bit of a tennis machine. But when he’s not in his office, he is very charming. You can talk to him about business, politics, about music, and he’s a good guy,” Becker said in an interview with The Guardian.
Becker also praised World No.3’s other qualities, including his trying to be a perfectionist.
“He’s also a real tennis historian,” he said. “He understands who was there beforehand and he wants to make a mark. Which he has done. Then he’s a perfectionist, like all superstars. He wants to play the perfect match, which in his case probably happened once or twice,” added Becker.
