Carlos Alcaraz doesn’t care much about the seeding at Wimbledon because he knows Novak Djokovic is coming to the All England’ Club to defend his title.
His comments came after winning his first grass court title at the Queen’s Club Championship. He defeated Alex de Minaur in straight sets 6-4, 6-4 to get crowned the championship as well as dethrone Djokovic from the top spot.
After the match, when he asked about the grass-court Grand Slam tournament, the 20-year-old admitted that he won’t be the heavy favorite to win the title because of the presence of seven-time Wimbledon champion Djokovic.
“The chances are not so much,” Alcaraz said about his chances of winning the grasscourt Major. “Novak is coming to Wimbledon. Right now I’m feeling better than at the beginning of the week.”
“No. 1 before Wimbledon gives you some motivation and extra confidence for me to win Wimbledon. Doesn’t change too much whether I play Wimbledon No. 1 or No. 2,” Alcaraz said.
Novak Djokovic defeated Carlos Alcaraz in the French Open semi-final
At the French Open, 23-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic was considered an underdog due to the rise of Carlos Alcaraz. The match which everyone was waiting for came in the semifinals. Many expected Alcaraz to upset the Serb but the opposite happened.
After losing the first set, Alcaraz made a comeback to clinch the second set, after which he fell easily in the last two sets 6-1, 6-1 due to cramps which hampered his movements. Alcaraz later admitted that the struggle was not physical during the match but he succumbed to pressure while playing against the Serbian legend.
