Novak Djokovic jokes he can coach Nick Kyrgios to 5 Grand Slam titles

Djokovic and Kyrgios were fierce rivals on and off the court and the latter led a 2-1 head-to-head stand.

Novak Djokovic joked he can coach Australia’s Nick Kyrgios to five Grand Slam titles. After his win at his opening match against Luca Van Assche at the ATP 250 Srpska Open in Banja Luka, Djokovic was asked the question of which tennis player he would like to coach.

“I would like to coach Kyrgios. He would have won five Grand Slams with me, but it would have cost him dearly,” Djokovic joked. Also Read: Patrick Mouratoglou Calls Novak Djokovic The ‘GOAT’; Opines That Carlos Alcaraz Is More Impressive Than The Serb

Djokovic and Kyrgios were fierce rivals on and off the court and the latter led a 2-1 head-to-head stand. However, Kyrgios came up with his support for the Serb when he was deported from Australia due to his unvaccination status last year. But they claimed they became great friends after the 2022 Wimbledon final where Djokovic defeated the Australian in the final to lift his seventh trophy on the grass-court Grand Slam.

Meanwhile, Kyrgios is out of action for a while due to his knee injury.

Novak Djokovic says his elbow is fine after the match

Djokovic has been battling elbow injuries, owing to which he faced defeat against Italy’s Lorenzo Musetti in the third round. In his first round, after losing the first set, he eased past Frenchman Luca Van Asshce 6-7 (4), 6-3, 6-2. After the match, he revealed that his elbow is fine and he is eager for more victories.

“The elbow is fine, it lasted over two and a half hours of the match and is holding up well. These conditions are not good for the joints and the elbow, in my case, but I’m glad that I managed to endure everything as I should. I am healthy and eager for new victories,” the 22-time Grand Slam champion said.

After his first-round win, he will face compatriot Dusan Lajovic or France’s Gregoire Barrere in the quarterfinals of the Banja Luka tournament on April 21.
