Novak Djokovic was certainly unhappy about Cameron Norrie’s on-court antics when the duo locked horns with each other in the fourth round at the 2024 Italian Open.
The World No.1 accused Norrie of hitting him with an overhead shot in the left calf when he turned back and conceded a point in the second set. The Serb also observed how Norrie took a medical time-out just before he served for the match.
“I did watch the replay when he hit me. Maybe you could say he didn’t hit me deliberately,” Djokovic said when asked about his glare toward Norrie after the incident. “It was not so much maybe about that…From the very beginning, he was doing all the things that were allowed. He’s allowed to take a medical timeout. He’s allowed to hit a player. He’s allowed to say, ‘Come on’ in the face more or less every single point from basically the first game.” Also Read: Iga Swiatek Vs Donna Vekic Match Prediction, Head-To-Head, Preview, And Live Stream | Italian Open
Djokovic, then perfectly responded to the Brit’s antics by winning the match 6-3, 6-4. “Those are the things that we players know in the locker room it’s not fair play, it’s not how we treat each other,” Djokovic said. “He brought the fire, and I responded to that. I’m not going to allow someone to behave like this just bending my head. I’m going to respond to that,” he added.
Novak Djokovic loses to Holger Rune in the quarterfinals
Holger Rune shocked Novak Djokovic in the quarterfinals of the Italian Open with a 6-2, 4-6, 6-2 win to reach the semi-finals.
Though rain suspended the game for a while when the Danish youngster was serving for the second set at 4-5, the 35-year-old made a comeback and won it. But the Italian, after clinching early break points, continue to dominate the third set and advanced to the final four stage.
This was Rune’s second win over Djokovic. Last the duo faced each other, the 20-year-old defeated the 22-time Grand Slam champion at the 2022 Paris Masters in November. Also Read: Novak Djokovic Vs Cameron Norrie Match Prediction, Head-To-Head, Preview, And Live Stream | Italian Open
