Holger Rune fumes during racquet drama in Munich Open final, mother comes to the rescue

Rune lost the second set horribly, 1-6, and this made him angrier and he complained to the chair umpire about how long will it take for him to get his racquet back.

During the final match between Holger Rune and Botic van de Zandschulp at the 2024 BMW Open in Munich, Rune was left fuming over a racquet drama.

This started in the first set where the Dane defeated the Dutchman 6-4. However, during the set, the teenager sent his racquet to get regripped. But 20 minutes went by, and still, he did not get his racquet back.

Then Rune lost the second set horribly, 1-6, and this made him angrier and he complained to the chair umpire about how long will it take for him to get his racquet back. He then asked the umpire to call the supervisor even if the racquet wasn’t regripped. But the hilarious thing which got captured during his lamentation was his claim that it takes him 37 seconds to regrip his racquet. “It doesn’t take 20 minutes to put an overgrip. Please call the supervisor and ask them to send it here back, no matter how it is. That’s insane like, my record is 37 seconds,” Rune said.

Then Rune’s mother came to the rescue as she was spotted later changing the grip.

Holger Rune defends his title in Munich

Meanwhile, as both the players won a set each, they played the decider. Zandschulp was way ahead with a 5-2 lead and was serving for the match after being at 40-15.

But Rune made a terrific comeback to down the Dutchman to snatch victory in the third set 7-6 (3) by saving four break points to defend his title in Munich. Now he became one of the four players to have won back-to-back titles in Munich after Guillermo Perez Roldan, Franco Squillari, and Alexander Zverev.
