Daniil Medvedev cites Novak Djokovic’s example to point out that crowd booing players is ‘part of tennis now’

But booing has increased a lot in tennis and though Medvedev thinks it has become a part of the game, he is not a great fan of it.

Russia’s Daniil Medvedev, apart from the game, is known to have a long history of on-court antics, owing to which he gets booing from the crowd. But booing has increased a lot in tennis and though Medvedev thinks it has become a part of the game, he is not a great fan of it.

He experienced booing again on Monday during his third-round clash with fellow Russian Alexander Shevchenko. After losing the first set 4-6, Medvedev bounced back to clinch the match 4-6, 6-1, 7-5. Last week also crowd booed him for smashing his racquet in frustration. Also Read: Carlos Alcaraz Vs Alexander Zverev Match Prediction, Head-To-Head, Preview, And Live Stream | Madrid Open

Medvedev pointed out that even top players like Novak Djokovic have to deal with this but the Russian believes sometimes the fans have no idea on what basis they are doing such things. He cited the example of his own matches to show sometimes he deserves such kind of treatment for venting out frustration, but in other matches, when he started taking challenges, the crowd did the same thing for no reason.

“I feel like sometimes the crowd right now in tennis, for whatever reason, I don’t know, maybe it was like this before also, comes for this excitement. So as soon as something is happening, they don’t even know what’s happening, they just boo you,” Medvedev said after the match.

“Yeah, I experienced this quite a bit. Novak Djokovic experienced it. I mean, a lot of players. I think it’s just part of tennis right now,” he added. Also Read: Where Is Roger Federer After Retirement?

Daniil Medvedev will face Aslan Karatsev in the fourth round

Medveved will face his other copatriot Aslan Karatsev in the fourth round of the ongoing Madrid Open. He started his Madrid Open campaign by breezing past Andrea Vavassori in the second round.

The two Russians were part of the match in Rome in 2021 where Medvedev complained about the slow court. That was their only meeting on red dirt. Medvedev won their last meeting on grass last year, but it’s Karatsev who leads the head-to-head stand 3-1 over Medvedev.
