The women’s singles title clash was originally scheduled to start at 7:00 local time but got underway at 11 pm local time. Russia’s Elena Rybakina defeated Anhelina Kalinina 6-4, 1-0 after which the Ukranian disclosed she and Rybakina had to play the final because they didn’t have any option to reschedule the match as Sunday’s schedule was already full.

I mean, as I understood we don’t have any other choice because tomorrow they have kind of cannot put us tomorrow,” Kalinina said. Also Read: Breaking: Andy Murray Withdraws From French Open 2024

Serena Williams’ ex-coach slams Italian Open for ruining Elena Rybakina-Anhelina Kalinina’s trophy presentation

Serena Williams’ former coach Rennae Stubbs has criticized Italian Open organizers for their incompetence in handling the final. After the much-delayed final, the presentation ceremony was also in disarray as the presenters messed up the sequence of the events. Rybakina had to ask for the trophy herself.

Rennae Stubbs took to social media and said: “What the hell is going on with this presentation? Also, the fact that the women are playing a final of 1000 at midnight is an abomination!!!!” Rennae said.

“Then they announced the winner first!?? And forgot about the runner up! Dear lord!!! Wooof!!! I love Italy I mean LOVE but they are NOT the worlds most organized!” she added.
