Over the past couple of years, the Australian Open has witnessed several shocking moments. From Rafael Nadal getting knocked out in the round games to Novak Djokovic losing in the semi-finals for the first time to Jannik Sinner becoming the new Australian king. Similarly, Daniil Medvedev is having bad luck losing in the finals.
Medvedev has made three final appearances at the Australian Open. All three have ended up with Medvedev losing.
- In 2021, Djokovic defeated Medvedev in the finals by 7-5, 6-2, 6-2.
- In 2022, Nadal defeated Medvedev in the finals by 2-6, 6-7, 6-4, 6-4, 7-5.
- In 2024, Sinner defeated Medvedev in the finals by 3-6, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-3.
After losing against Rafael Nadal in the 2022 Australian Open finals, he said:
“I’m talking about a few moments where the kid stopped dreaming, and today was one of them.”
Similarly, after losing against Jannik Sinner in the 2024 Australian Open finals, he said:
“Now, I’m dreaming more than ever.”

Daniil Medvedev was inches closer to lifting the Grand Slam two times more in his career. He was only two rounds away from achieving his dream. But as mentioned above, the dream is not over, and Medvedev will bounce back for the 2025 title.

- Defeated Terence Atmane in the round of 128 by 5-7, 6-2, 6-4, 6-1.
- Defeated Emil Ruusuvuori in the round of 64 by 3-6, 6-7, 6-4, 7-6, 6-0.
- Defeated Felix Auger-Aliassime in the round of 32 by 6-3, 6-4, 6-3.
- Defeated Nuno Borges in the round of 16 by 6-3, 7-6, 5-7, 6-1.
- Defeated Hubert Hurkacz in the quarterfinal by 7-6, 2-6, 6-3, 5-7, 6-4.
- Defeated Alexander Zverev in the semifinal by 5-7, 3-6, 7-6, 7-6, 6-3.
- Lost to Jannik Sinner in the final by 3-6, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-3.
